Akrotiri is very close to the sea and swimming is possible at the nearby beaches; red and white beaches are the most well known of them and the beach of apothikes which is among the few beaches at the side of the caldera.

Akrotiri village is considered among the most traditional and picturesque of the island. Small white houses with blue windows and doors surrounded with colourful gardens. All the village is connected with small pebble stone roads, a walk in the village gives the visitors the chance to meet the locals and to come closer to the traditional culture.

Apart from all the above, Akrotiri offers all the modern facilities and services that a visitor may need. Fish taverns by the sea, restaurants and cafes, mini markets, beach bars and very often transportation to Fira.
